A High-Efficiency Isolated Wide Voltage Range DC-DC Converter Using WBG Devices

The recent release of the standard USB-PD 3.1 [1] specifies variable output voltages from 5 V to 48 featuring a step forward towards universal adaptor but rising new challenges for converter topologies used up now. In such applications, first AC-DC stage is followed by DC-DC stage. this paper, emerging WBG technologies are applied asymmetrical half-bridge flyback topology, demonstrating potential combination as wide voltage range Its suitability high-density and high-efficiency Extended Power Range (EPR) battery charger applications discussed. impact different switching technologies, silicon band gap, analyzed. A general method dimension presented an iterative process evaluate theoretical efficiency under conditions devices. Finally, advantages using Gallium Nitride (GaN) devices demonstrated in 240 W prototype. It achieves full load 98%, it able deliver with input 120 420 V, well outstanding power density 112 W/inch3 uncased.
